Boka Kotorska bay

Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is a coastal town in Montenegro located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen. Herceg Novi was known as Castelnuovo ("New castle" in Italian). Herceg Novi has had a turbulent past, despite being one of the youngest settlements on the Adriatic. A history of varied occupations has created a blend of diverse and picturesque architectural style in the city. Herceg Novi is one of major Montenegrin tourist destination. It is well known as a spa and health centerThe most famous tourist attractions in Herceg Novi are castle Forte Mare built by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I in 1382, a clock tower built by Austrians in 19th century, the Kanli tower built by Turks, and the Serbian church St. Michael Archangel in central Belavista Square.

Meljine

Meljine is a very peaceful coastal settlement, perfect for a holiday, but also for a relaxed family life.Meljine has a rich history, but also significant tourist potentials. Namely, the only two larger natural sandy beaches in the territory of Herceg Novi are in Meljine. The Adriatic Highway, passes through Meljine and it crosses the road that leads to Trebinje - Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that the circular stream located in the center of Meljine is practically one of the most important crossroads in this area. It is also important to note that in Meljine there is a famous hospital Meljine, Savina Monastery, and from here begins the walking path "5 Danica".

Savina Monastery

The Savina Monastery is made in lush Mediterranean vegetation on one of the most beautiful parts of the northern Montenegrin coast. The Monastery consists of three churches: the Little Temple of the Dormition of Mother of God, the Great Temple of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of the Saint Sava, whereby the monastery was named. The little temple of the Dormition of Mother of God is very small, only ten meters long and six meters wide. Most probably it dates from 1030, although it is the oldest record in which the monastery was mentioned in 1648. The monastery contains a large number of relics from the time of Nemanjic dinasty, including those taken from the Tvrdoš Monastery. The Temple of Saint Sava is located outside the monastery complex.

Old City

The Herceg Novi old town is amazing. It is on a fairly steep hill that leads all the way down to the sea. Wandering through the small stairways to the various plazas and fortresses is a many hour adventure. The Old City Core - is actually a unique urban core, which dates from the late middle century, and contains fortification, sacral, residential and public facilities. The intertwined styles of construction of facilities still testify of the Turkish and Venetian reign in Herceg Novi. Narrow streets, old architecture (from middle ages to Venetian rule), stairs gives unique impression to every visitor.

Rose

Rose is an old fisherman village, located at the entrance of the Kotor Bay, opposite of Herceg Novi. Rose is turned towards to the west side, exposed to the last rays of the sun on the slope. Otherwise, Rose is the place with the most sunny hours during the year, compared to all places along the Kotor bay. Herceg Novi is about 3 kilometers away, which represents a 15-minute boat cruising. The inhabitants of this settlement were engaged mainly in fishing in the past, and today Rose is considered one of the elite tourist sites of Montenegro. The preserved traditional architecture, old stone houses, Forte Rose fortress and St.Trinity Church make this fisherman village one of the few preserved ambient units and a perfect place for a dream holiday!

Promenade "Pet Danica"

Promenade of Herceg Novi called "Pet Danica", in the length of 6 kilometers, stretches along the sea from Igalo to Meljine. The promenade is named after the names of five Danica, five young girls who bravely fought and died in World War II. Part of the route of the former famous railway line Sarajevo-Zelenika, also passed through this walkway and hence in Herceg Novi, with the sound of the ship's siren, sometimes could be heard the roar of the train, called "Ćira" among people. Today, next to the promenade dominates the sound of waves, masts that jingle and music from pubs situated along the promenade. City promenade is ideal route for fast or slow walking, run, riding of bike and roller skates, meditation by the sea, discovering history of the town or hanging out in one of the cafes with a relaxing view of the sea.
